Mass @ OLGC Parish School on Mondays and Fridays.
Mass @ Resurrection Parish in Canton on Wednesdays.
Last year, given the change in assignments for priests in the Archdiocese and in our family of parishes, I modified the schedule for daily Masses. While I had to reduce the number of Masses each week, I was very grateful for the kindness and understanding of the parishioners given the circumstances.
It has been a great blessing to welcome Fr. Pat to the parish, and I know that he has sensed the warm and gracious welcome from everyone. In light of his arrival, it prompted me to think about the daily Mass schedule, not just from the perspective of our parish alone but what would be most helpful for the whole Bishop Baraga family of parishes. It will be important that we always think in those terms, so that we are as strategic as we can be with the resources that we have.
To that end, starting on Monday, August 25, there will be three daily Masses for the family offered at 6:45 am. On Monday and Friday the early Mass will be in the school chapel of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish School and open to anyone. The location downtown makes it closer to St. John Neumann and St. Thomas a’Becket, for those who like to attend. Entry to and exiting from the chapel will be only through the door located between the school gym and the Junior High on Arthur Street. There will be no post Mass activities as the chapel will be needed for the school as their day begins.
On Wednesday of each week, 6:45 am Mass will be at Resurrection Parish, followed by an hour of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Confessions for one hour. This schedule gives members of the whole family of parishes three early morning options for Mass.
For Our Lady of Good Counsel, the 8:00 am Mass followed by Confessions will continue on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Mass scheduled on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm followed by Confessions will also remain. There are no changes to the weekend Mass schedule.
As we move forward, I believe these changes will make it possible to have a variety of options that are accessible to all members of the four parishes in the family. To the extent that we have the priests available we will continue the schedule as I share here, but also please note that circumstances can change in the future that may require modifications to this schedule.
Peace, Msgr. Todd
