Becoming Catholic for Kids

So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. - 1 John 3:1

What does Becoming Catholic for Kids and Sacramental Preparation involve?

Step One: Learning about the Mass and beginning to attend the Mass regularly. Participants engage in a Church tour and explanation of the Mass and receive a booklet to help them follow along with the Mass. The Mass is where we encounter the love and salvation of Jesus Christ!

Step Two:
Attending faith formation (catechesis) sessions. Experienced catechists hand on the faith and parents join a small group with other parents in faith formation. Participants learn about Jesus Christ, the Church, and the gift that God offers in the Sacraments. Middle school students participate in youth group and attend catechesis sessions about sacramental prep once per month.

Step Three: Participating in rites of the Church. Once participants decide they would like to receive a sacrament, they can engage in an optional rite at a Sunday liturgy and/or the Cathedral of the Archdiocese.

Step Four: Preparing for the sacraments. Families design a preparation plan that coincides with the Lenten season. This plan involves personal prayer and helps them grow in their relationship with God.

Step Five: Receive Baptism and/or other Sacraments. This typically takes place in the Easter Season.

Step Six: Choosing a path for continued faith formation.

How long does it take to prepare for Baptism and/or other sacraments?

This process is different for everyone! It is a journey of faith and goes at the participants' own pace.
