

Kenneth David Currie, a beloved father and grandfather, passed peacefully on November 1, 2025, in Plymouth, Michigan, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 12, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to late parents Thomas and Ann (Sabino) Currie.
Kenneth is survived by his son, Kenneth (Susan) Currie, Jr., and daughter, Anne (Scott) Fitzgerald, as well as his beloved son, Patrick Currie. Kenneth was also a proud grandfather to Daniel and Caroline Currie, and Kieran and Caitriona Fitzgerald, who brought immense joy to his life.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Carole, with whom he shared many wonderful years. Their enduring commitment to one another and love for a good party left a lasting impact on all who knew them.
Kenneth was third of four brothers, who were deeply bonded and valued their Catholic faith. He grew up in Detroit and attended De LaSalle High School, graduating in 1956. He also attended Mount Carmel College, a Jesuit Seminary, where he studied Theology. He completed his education at the University of Detroit and Wayne State University in Finance and Marketing. Ken served honorably in the United States Army as a Sargent in the E-5 Infantry from 1960-1966. His service instilled in him discipline and a lifelong sense of duty and love for his country.
Kenneth built a successful career in commercial banking with his sharp financial acumen, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike, many of whom became lifelong friends. Ken began working at City National Bank of Detroit in 1964 performing diverse roles in banking, and later culminated his career as Chairman, President and CEO of First National Bank of Plymouth, which later became First of America Bank. Furthermore, Ken served as a dedicated board member for various subsidiary banks in Michigan, the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, and was involved in chairing committees for the Michigan Bankers Association. Ken spent his final years serving on the board of Surface Combustion, an industrial company located in Northern Ohio, which was fulfilling and enjoyable work in his retirement.
Kenneth also built his life around community involvement and spiritual pursuits. He was a proud member of the Plymouth Rotary Club and provided service for the Plymouth YMCA and United Way. Ken built social connections over the years as a member of the Detroit Athletic Club, Meadowbrook Country Club, and Western Wayne Conservation Club. He had a deep connection with the Capuchin Order and volunteered with the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit. He was also a devout member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Plymouth, and cherished his Catholic faith.
Kenneth was a man of simple pleasures. He took great joy in his family and dear friends. He loved to share his passion for cooking and was known for his famous barbecue ribs and pasta carbonara. He took immense joy in socializing and was recognized for his warm hospitality and cheerful personality. One of his great loves was meticulously planning parties and holidays. Ken was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many years boating on his beloved Great Lakes and spending time in Northern Michigan with friends and family. In quiet moments, his sharp mind loved the New York Times crossword puzzle, reading scripture, and books pertaining to history, politics, and adventure. Ken was truly a lifelong lover of learning and never let a day go by without staying updated on current events even in his final days.
The memory of Kenneth will be honored with a series of services, beginning with a viewing on November 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home located at 280 S. Main St, Plymouth, MI. The following day, November 10, a visitation will take place at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, starting at 10:00 AM, leading into a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield at 1:00 PM.
Kenneth David Currie's legacy of kindness, love, and strength will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched. His family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Carole, in eternal peace.
