James “Jim” Jarvey, age 80, of Canton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. He was born on August 24, 1945, in Calumet, Michigan, to the late Clayton and Dorothy Jarvey.

Jim was the beloved husband of Sally Jarvey, sharing 55 years of devoted marriage. He was a proud father to Michael (Krista) Jarvey and Caroline (Matthew) Mowers. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Renee) Jarvey, Gerald Jarvey, and sister Jean (Robert) Scott.

Jim dedicated his life to education as a high school mathematics teacher in the Livonia and Plymouth Canton school districts, inspiring students to approach challenges with logic, perseverance, and confidence.
Jim’s lifelong commitment to mentoring extended to high school athletics, where he built a distinguished and widely respected football coaching career at Livonia Clarenceville High School, Plymouth Canton High School, and Plymouth Salem High School. Jim was recognized as Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year in 1992 and was elected to the MHSFCA Coaches Hall of Fame in 1996, honoring his leadership, service, and impact on Michigan high school football.
Jim and Sally shared a lifelong passion for gardening and caring for their home and property. Jim and Sally together earned their Michigan Master Gardener certifications, reflecting their dedication, patience, and love of nature. This shared interest brought them great joy and pride in creating and maintaining a welcoming and beautiful outdoor space.

Jim took great pride in his grandchildren: Clayton, Caden, and Cailee Jarvey, and Jacob, James, and Rachel Mowers. He is also survived by many former students, athletes, colleagues, friends, and extended family who remember him for his character, consistency, and service to others.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial Road, Plymouth, Michigan 48170.
The family invites friends, colleagues, former students, and athletes whose lives were touched by Jim to join them in celebrating his life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to American Diabetes Association in Jim’s honor, with consideration encouraged toward organizations supporting education, gardening, or student athletics.
