Become a Catholic
Becoming a Catholic is an important decision in your life, a decision that is made after careful thought and prayer. We believe that your decision to look into the Catholic Church is your response to an invitation made by Jesus to come to know Him through this community. In other words, Jesus is inviting you into a personal relationship with Him. Conversion describes the process of coming to know Him more deeply. The Catholic community of Our Lady of Good Counsel wishes to serve as an instrument to help you to grow in your relationship with the Lord.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
This process of becoming a Catholic is called the RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The RCIA can best be described as a journey of coming to know Jesus Christ on a personal level. The RCIA is the experience by which people become full members of the Roman Catholic Church. The experience culminates in the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. It involves both a living experience and knowledge of the Church. The person seeking to join the Catholic Church is introduced to beliefs, life, liturgy and ministry in the Catholic community. The RCIA is designed for people desiring full initiation into the Church: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The RCIA also includes those baptized Catholics who wish to complete their initiation through the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, and also for those seeking to renew their faith. Participants in the RCIA program are expected to attend weekly meetings and to be good listeners. There are no tests or quizzes.
