The mandate given to the Christian Service Commission is to take care of the temporal needs of the parish family. Those involved in Christian Service seek not only to aid those with physical needs but also to bring about deeper awareness within the parish family of our responsibility to work for social justice both at home and abroad.

The Archdiocese of Detroit website provides a good summary of catholic social teaching priorities which are consistent with the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops 1998 document Sharing Catholic Social Teaching: Challenges and Directions. The following major themes of catholic social teaching have been adopted as parish priorities:

1. The Life and Dignity of the Human Person, from Conception to Natural Death
2. Call to Family and Community Life
3. The Right and Duty to Participate in Social, Economic and Political Life
4. Advancing the Common Good
5. Promoting Human Rights and Responsibilities
6. Promoting Peace and Social Justice
7. Special Care and Concern for the Poor and Vulnerable
8. The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Worker
9. Solidarity – Loving our Neighbor Locally and Globally
10. Caring for God's Creation: Stewardship of the Earth

All parish groups are arranged to support these priorities as outlined below in the sections below.
